Born in Mountain Grove, a small rural town in the Missouri Ozarks, Dennis was the fourth of six children.
Growing up in a devoutly Christian family, Dennis logged a lot of pew time at the local Baptist Church where he honed his artistic abilities on church bulletins.
After graduating from high school, he attended Southwest Missouri State University to study art. During the college years, he spent his summers working at amusement parks (Opryland & Silver Dollar City) drawing caricatures. Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and stumbled blindly into a career as a freelance illustrator.
After spending the 90s in Texas, Dennis and family moved to Indiana where his wife Karen teaches at Huntington University during the week, and at Golden Gate Seminary in California on the weekends. His oldest son, Nick, graduated from OBU and is an independent film director in Oklahoma City. Youngest son, Pete, is currently a sophomore at Oklahoma Baptist University.
For fun Dennis plays in a recreational hockey league where he pretends to be Wayne Gretzky, but plays more like Wayne Grekowski, the seventy-three year old store greeter down at Wal-Mart. He also plays bass and guitar for the praise team at his church where he continues to insist that a pyrotechnics show and a hydraulic stage for the band would really add a lot to Sunday morning worship services.
